OtoWhisper ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use OtoWhisper.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive your Apple ID email address (or a private relay email if you choose to hide your email). We do not collect your name, phone number, or other personal details.
- Subscription Information: Your subscription status and plan type are recorded to manage access to premium features. All payment processing is handled by Apple through the App Store.
- Audio Data: Audio files you upload for transcription are transmitted to our server for AI processing. See Section 3 for details on how audio data is handled.
- Usage Data: We collect aggregated usage metrics such as transcription minutes used per month to enforce usage quotas.
- Crash and Diagnostic Data: We use Sentry to collect anonymous crash reports and error logs to improve app stability. This data does not include personally identifiable information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App's features (transcription, translation, synced playback).
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account.
- Process and manage your subscription and usage quotas.
- Diagnose technical issues and improve app performance.
- Respond to your feedback and support requests.
3. Audio Data Processing
Your audio files are uploaded to our server solely for the purpose of generating subtitles (transcription) and translations. Specifically:
- Audio data is sent to Groq for speech-to-text transcription.
- Transcription results may be sent to Google Gemini for translation into your target language.
- The App will ask for your explicit consent before sending any data to third-party AI services. You may review or revoke this consent at any time in the App's Settings.
- We do not permanently store your audio files on our server. Audio files are processed in real time and are deleted from our server after processing is complete.
- The resulting subtitle files (SRT) are returned to your device and stored locally.

We take reasonable measures to protect your information:
- All data transmissions between the App and our servers are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
- User account data is stored securely in Supabase with row-level security policies.
- Audio files are not permanently stored on our server — they are processed and discarded.
- Subtitle files are stored locally on your device and may sync via iCloud Drive if you enable it.

- Account data is retained as long as your account is active.
- Audio files are deleted immediately after processing.
- Usage metrics are retained for billing and quota management purposes.
- You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data.
- Opt out of crash reporting by contacting us.

8. Advertising and Tracking
OtoWhisper does not display advertisements, use advertising identifiers, or track you across other apps or websites. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
9. Children's Privacy
OtoWhisper is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App or on our website. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last revised.
